For Researchers

The William Andrews Clark Memorial Library is a non-circulating special collections library. We are open to the UCLA community, Center for 17th– and 18th-Century Studies fellows, and members of the public whose research requires the use of our collections. The only requirement to register as a reader is to have a research interest in the Clark’s collections.

Though the Clark is open to members of the public who need to use our collections, it is not a public library. The Clark Library is not equipped with public computers, public wifi, printers, or photocopiers. Because its collection focus is specialized, the Clark does not have most modern books, magazines, and newspapers typically held by public libraries. If your research requires the use of any of the above, we encourage you to visit one of the local public libraries near the Clark: Jefferson Library (2211 W Jefferson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018) or the Washington Irving Branch Library (4117 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018).

When you arrive at the library proceed to the entrance pavilion, directly to the north of the main library building. Take the elevator or stairs to the lobby below, where you will secure your belongings in a locker. Ring the doorbell for admittance into the reading room. If it is your first time using the library a staff member will meet you in the lobby to discuss library policies and your research plans.

Registration with our Aeon Special Collections client is required in order to make requests or place reproduction orders. Step-by-step instructions can be found on our Aeon instructions page.

The reading room is open M-F, 9am-4:45pm. Tours are by appointment only.
