Imaging and Permissions
Personal Camera Use Encouraged: We encourage you to use your own camera to capture images of collection materials for personal research use. It is essential that the flash is off and that you continue to handle the material carefully. If the physical condition of the item allows photographs, Clark staff may assist you in positioning the item such that it is fully supported. Do not lay a book flat, open a book more than its spine will easily allow, or push down on an item to flatten it. You may not stand on a chair to take photographs and all materials must remain on the table during photography. You may not photograph or record other readers without their permission. You may not photograph the reading room. Please silence any excessive noises that your camera might make.
Permissions and Copyright: The Clark Library does not hold the copyright to its materials and therefore cannot grant or deny permission to use them. You the researcher are responsible for determining the copyright status of any materials you may wish to use, to investigate the owner of the copyright, and to obtain permission for your intended use. In all cases, you must cite the Clark Library as the source with the following credit line:
The William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, University of California, Los Angeles
For guidance on copyright, please see UCLA’s All about Copyright and the University of California’s Fair Use for Academics. The Clark Library no longer requires a signed permissions form.
Imaging and Research Fees: The Clark Library charges fees for imaging and other services on a cost-recovery basis, and are payable by check or credit card. Checks must be in U.S. currency, payable to the University of California Regents.
Fees differ between UC Users and Non-UC Users. UC Users are defined as UC faculty, staff, and students. UC user fees apply to university-directed research only. Services and materials for for-profit research will be charged at the non-UC rate.
Payment in full is required before orders can be delivered.
